THIRTY community-minded youngsters did their bit for the environment by helping to clean up a Darlington park.

The pupils from Firthmoor Primary School were joined by staff from fast-food restaurant McDonald's yesterday, to carry out the work in South Park.

The firm has launched its biggest anti-littering campaign this year, with 800 restaurants - including the Morton Park site - lending their support.

Darlington Borough Council's assistant environmental services director, Terry Collins, said: "We recently awarded the Northgate McDonald's branch our Tidy Trader Charter award in recognition of their efforts made in supporting the council's anti-litter campaign.

"The McDonald's and Firthmoor School clean-up is another step in the right direction in the drive against littering in Darlington."
