YOUNG musicians have struck a chord with a charity by raising £1,200.
Last weekend, 60 pupils from Durham School performed in the annual Music for a Summer's Evening event, in the school hall.
They entertained about 200 guests, who also enjoyed wine and a meal.
The event, which is in its ninth year, featured a variety of instruments and musical styles, and included the orchestra, jazz bands, choirs and the school's big band.
Yesterday, pupils presented a cheque for £1,200 to representatives of Cancer Research.
Director of music Roger Muttitt said: "It's a concert but in a nice, relaxed atmosphere, and everyone seems to enjoy it.
"We've raised money for Cancer Research before, as well as other charities like St Cuthbert's Hospice.
"I think we have probably raised nearly £9,000 over the years."
