TEENAGE tearaways could soon find themselves banned from entering a park, which has been selected for a £3m facelift.
Anti-social behaviour orders are to be enforced against youngsters who residents say are turning Ropner Park, Stockton, into a no-go area.
Residents are calling a meeting to discuss the vandalism and rowdy behaviour.
"At this meeting, we will be covering the issue of anti- social behaviour in the park. Lately, there seems to have been an upsurge in the number of incidents," said Moira Neish, secretary of the Friends of Ropner Park.
Chairman Craig Adamson said: "In this day and age it is just ridiculous when you have groups of 13, 14 and 15-year-olds effectively making the park a no-go area.
"Given that Ropner Park will shortly have more than £3m spent on it, we have to ensure that we tackle anti-social behaviour so that the park can be enjoyed by everyone.
It is claimed that juveniles wreaking havoc in Ropner Park are fuelled by alcohol. Empty bottles are smashed on the ground and flower beds vandalised.
A spokeswoman for Stockton Borough Council said: "We will be working closely with several agencies, including the police, our own wardens and security services in an attempt to restrict any anti-social behaviour. We want everyone to enjoy the park and we are anticipating it to be visited by lots of families."
The council is seeking a sponsor for the installation of security cameras.
Plans for the park include a Victorian-style bandstand and park gates, restoration of the fountain, work to the lake, a new park pavilion and cafe.
