THOUSANDS of people lined the streets as colourful floats paraded through the centre of Richmond yesterday.
To the sound of cheers and jazz music, the brightly-decorated floats and fancy dress contenders passed through the town, with themes ranging from aliens and mermaids to film favourite Austin Powers.
The popular carnival was part of the annual Richmond Meet, which entertained crowds of people and raised money for charity throughout the bank holiday weekend.
Yesterday afternoon the Musical Time Machine entertained a large audience in the Friary Gardens by playing musical favourites from the 1950s and 1960s.
"Given the not so perfect weather the whole event has come together very well and we have had great support from the local people," said spokesman Terry Glover.
"Sunday's Meet gala at Earl's Orchard was a great success, with children's entertainment, traditional stalls and a number of shows."
Money raised over the weekend will be given to a range of local charities and good causes, as well as going towards next year's event.
Meet president Bob White said: "It has been a fantastic weekend, a lot of hard work has gone into it and the people of Richmond appeared to have really enjoyed themselves. I hope this success will continue in the coming years."
