City of Newcastle ASC ran out worthy winners of the A de Lande Long Cup in the Northumberland and Durham Counties senior men's water polo championship in the Durham City Pool.
Newcastle showing their class throughout, as expected from a team which competes in the National League second division. Host club Durham City, fielding a young and comparatively less experienced side, did well to finish in fifth place of the seven teams competing.
The tournament took in 13 games and lasted for six hours. David Mell was the tournament coordinator. The same format will be used in the women's championship later in the year.
The trophy was presented to the winning team by Roy MacAllister, North East Counties water polo coordinator. Peter Maddison, president of the N&D Counties ASA, was also present.
Final result: 1. City of Newcastle, 2. Sedgefield District, 3. Newcastle University, 4. Durham University, 5. Durham City, 6. City of Sunderland, 7. Catterick Cobras
