A man threatened staff with a knife and demanded money in an early morning raid on a shop in Middlesbrough.
The man went into Bells Stores in Bankfield Road, Eston, at 6.05am yesterday.
He waived a knife at terrified staff and jumped over the counter, but was unable to get any money.
He then left the store and made off on a motorbike parked near the door.
He rode along Bankfield Road in the direction of Normanby.
The man is described as about 20 years old, 6ft, of slim build. He wore a dark top and trousers.
He hid his face with what is thought to have been a baby's shawl because it had tassles on it.
