Norton squash club had a magnificent night at the recent Durham & Cleveland Squash Presentation night at their home club.
The Norton juniors won the County Leagues at under 11, 13 and under 15 age groups showing a strength in depth the other clubs can only dream of. County Junior Chairperson Laura Hall of Unsquashable set up the leagues two years ago allowing junior squash players over the two counties the opportunity to play each other on a competitive basis giving a progression route to the full County juniors sides.
The investment in junior talent has paid off for the Norton club with several juniors already playing for the full County sides and showing up well in recent area competitions. Many more Norton juniors are coming though and waiting for their chance of full County glory. Regular coaching by County coach Bill West is being supplemented by fortnightly full day sessions with ex-world No.5 Bryan Beeson and Northumbria's John Dale.
The club itself also had an excellent night, being named Club of the Year and the first team crowned men's Division 1 Champions. With local osteopath Andy Cross also being named men's Division 1 player of the year, the Norton club seems to be the place to be for squash at any age or standard.
