Of four games were scheduled to take place because Stockton's ground was being used by Durham County. The games at Chester-le-Street where Newcastle were visitors and at Philadelphia for their game with Tynemouth, were both cancelled without a ball being bowled.
Norton managed to stage their game with Blaydon who were 177 for nine from 55 overs. Ron Platford scored 37 with two fours before he was stumped and Paul McElvanney also made 37, but the top scorer was Gary Tones who carried his bat for 44 out of a total of 177 for nine. Owen Jenkins returned three for 39 in 12 overs and Jason Huitson had two for 43 from his spell. Norton were five for one when the match was abandoned.
Sunderland did not bat at South Northumberland, who were 141 for six declared from 34 overs. Ian Gilthorpe was undefeated on 34 and Walton added 21 to the South North score, while for Sunderland Brown had three for 42 in eight overs.
