Quakers: On Sunday, May 11, Alasdair Tatham had an excellent run at Leeds Half Marathon finishing eighth out of 1994 competitors, completing the course in 1:15:05.
Ian and Mike Scott also took to the roads to compete in the Beverley 10K. Ian was pipped at the post to take second over 45 vet, although the first three all finished within 1 second of each other. Ian finished the course in 35:09 and finished 14th overall out of 906 runners. Mike was 256th in a time of 46:22.
Julia Orr, once again, had an outstanding cross-country season gaining four regional titles and also impressive placings in national athletic events. The season started with Julia's fifth consecutive victory in the Darlington Schools Cross Country, followed by a gold medal in the North Eastern Counties Under-17 Girls Championship.
Julia then proceeded to become the Durham County Schools Intermediate Girls Champion and won all four races in the Durham Pine North-East Harrier League to collect the Junior Girls title. She also represented the North-East in the UK Inter-Counties Championship, finishing 15th and competing for County Durham, finishing an excellent 18th in the English Schools Cross Country Championships.
The next White Horse Handicap will be held on Tuesday, May 27. Registration is at The White Horse Pub, Harrogate Hill, Darlington. Registration closes at 6.45pm, race commences 7.15 pm. The course covers 5.5 miles over footpaths and bridleways north of Darlington. Prize to all competitors.
This year's Hamsterley Forest Run is being staged on Sunday, June 1. As usual the event will be comprised of a 10K main race and a 3K fun run. Start times are 11am and 10.30am respectively from the Visitor Centre at Hamsterley Forest. All proceeds from the races go to one of the club's adopted charities, The Butterwick Hospice. Entry forms can be obtained from The Butterwick Hospice at Bishop Auckland, Macmillan House, Woodhouse Lane, Bishop Auckland, Co Durham, DL14 6JU or from the Quakers Running Club.
