A VICAR has volunteered to abseil down his church to raise money for charity.
It is not the first time Father Raymond Cuthbertson has scaled the walls of St John's Church, in Shildon, County Durham.
Both he and Shildon councillor Mike Hardy tackle the challenge every year and are hoping that more people will join them this year.
Coun Hardy said: "It is fun, anyone can come and join in, and it is for a good cause after all.''
The pair, armed with ropes, helmets and harnesses, will abseil from the clock tower on Saturday, June 28. There will also be a church fete from 10am to 3pm the same day.
Daredevils wanting to abseil must be over 16 years of age and have a reasonable standard of fitness.
All the equipment will be provided, along with expert tuition.
Money raised will go to the Butterwick Hospice, the Countryside Movement and St John's Church.
People taking part can raise money for the charity of their choice but will have to pay a £20 administration fee.
