A shopper scooped £1,000 yesterday after taking part in a challenge to Grab a Grand.
Hairdresser Kelly Waters beat others to the cash after catching the largest handful of pretend notes in a specially-constructed cubicle at Darlington's Cornmill Centre.
"It was really hard because there were so many bits of paper," said the 20-year-old, of Eldon Street, Darlington.
"I didn't think I'd have a chance but I'm really excited to have won.
"I'm going to spend it on lots of clothes and shoes."
The event was organised by the centre to attract shoppers on Bank Holiday Monday.
Assistant centre manager Susan Young said it worked, with more than 16,000 people visiting the Cornmill - a ten per cent rise on the same day last year.
