THE Poet Laureate will open a village library and meet schoolchildren tomorrow.
Andrew Motion is visiting the library at Strensall, near York, for the opening of the building, which has been the subject of a £130,000 modernisation and expansion project.
He will also meet pupils from Robert Wilkinson Primary School, who have been illustrating some of their favourite poems to celebrate his visit. As well as discussing the children's work, Mr Motion will speak about the importance of libraries and books in the community.
The opening is by invitation only, but on Friday there will be a family fun day which will be open to the public.
The fun day, from 2pm to 7.30pm, will include story-telling, games and puzzles in the afternoon, and IT help for adults, from 5pm to 7pm. For more details, phone the library on (01904) 490876.
