A MOTHER is saying thank you to friends and colleagues who supported her soldier son during the Iraq war.
Tank driver Paul Emmerson's family waited anxiously at home in Crook during his three-month posting to Bazrah with the Scots Dragoon Guards.
In Iraq, Paul, 19, received a stream of letters and gifts from his mother, Glynis, his sister and their large circle of friends.
Mrs Emmerson, who works for the Homeline warden service, said: "Friends, people from Homeline and the council offices all wrote, and Paul shared the letters with his mates."
Paul, a former Parkside School pupil, has been on leave before rejoining his regiment in Germany.
