A NATIONAL Lottery grant has proved a lifeline for residents suffering from mobility problems.
People in Redcar and Cleveland will be able to use wheelchairs and scooters to get out, thanks to £88,141 from the Community Fund.
The money will be used to help set up a shopmobility service.
Barbara Rankin, the vice-chairwoman of Redcar and Cleveland Disability Access Group, said: "We are delighted to receive this award.
"The scheme will allow people with a mobility difficulty to access the shops and promenade and take part in all the activities in the area along with everyone else."
My Sister's Place, in Middlesbrough, which supports victims of domestic violence, has been given £303,628 to fund three full-time staff.
Project co-ordinator Maria Hannaway said: "This will enhance the work of the project and enable us to further our activities on behalf of the women who use this vital service."
Skillshare, which provides training courses and networking opportunities in Hartlepool, has been awarded £123,232 to pay for three staff and running costs.
Darlington Mind, which provides residential day and outreach services to people with mental health problems, has received £76, 662 to pay for a full-time co-ordinator.
