UNSUNG heroes who save North-East lives through their gift of blood are to be honoured in a new awards scheme.
The National Blood Service (NBS) is launching the NBS Special Awards, which aims to recognise the blood donors, supporters and members of staff who help to save the lives of thousands of people each year.
And it is asking the public to nominate the people, groups and organisations that have done their bit.
NBS North-East communications officer Laura Summers said: "The aim of the campaign is to thank everyone who contributes to helping save and improve patients lives, be they donor, supporter or member of staff.
"We already thank people in a number of ways, from the milestone Donor Awards through to Long Service Awards for staff.
"But there is a special group of people whose efforts go unnoticed, yet they go that extra mile for the NBS.
"And these are the people who should be recognised and thanked."
Nominations must be for a special act or event that has happened since September 1 last year.
The closing date for nominations is September 30.
For an application form, call the NBS National Donor Helpline on 08457 711711.
The regional winners will be forwarded for selection for the national finals, which will be taking place in spring next year.
