A YOUNG ballerina has been presented with a bronze statue to celebrate her dancing achievements.
Sophie Metcalfe, 12, of Aycliffe Village, who trains at the Born to Dance studio in Darlington, recently won first place in the Northern Ballet competition held in Washington.
Since taking up dancing two years ago, Sophie has gained ten distinctions in her ballet exams and has also been crowned Student of the Year by her dance school.
Ray Hawkeswood, also from Aycliffe Village, was so impressed when he read about Sophie's achievements in the local newsletter that he invited her to his business, Morton Pine, at Morton Park, Darlington, to be presented with a bronze statue of a dancer that had been on display in the shop.
