A FLEEING burglar who climbed on to a roof where he was followed by police and arrested was jailed yesterday.
Nicholas Broughton, 26, was also carrying a lock knife when he was searched, Patricia Mancina, prosecuting, told Teesside Crown Court.
A neighbour called police when Broughton and another man were seen inside a house while the owner was out.
They saw Broughton walking down the street carrying two rucksacks containing a substantial amount of property.
Broughton was told to stop but he ran off and climbed on to a roof. He was followed by a police sergeant who eventually arrested him.
Broughton, of Chipchase Road, Middlesbrough, was on prison licence with 514 days left to serve from a seven-year sentence for robbery.
He was sentenced to three years and three months in prison, including 15 months from his licence, after pleading guilty to the burglary in Pearl Street, Middlesbrough, on March 28, and carrying an offensive weapon.
