AN end of an era for a further education college is to be celebrated next month.
New College Durham begins moving into its newly refurbished accommodation at Framwellgate Moor next month.
The revamped college will take in all the existing higher education and residential courses run at its campus at Nevilles Cross, which is being sold for a residential and office development.
The £35m redevelopment project and move is taking place in stages, to minimise disruption to courses.
To mark the first stage, an open day will take place at the college on Saturday, June 14, between 10am and 4pm.
The event will look at the past, present and future of the college. There will be guest speakers reminiscing about their time at the further education centre, memorabilia for sale and the chance to meet up with past students.
There will also be displays of plans for the new building and the development of the current site at Nevilles Cross.
The event is open to everybody and there is no charge.
During the evening there will be a formal ball for past and present students and staff.
Tickets cost £20, which includes a welcome drink, luxury buffet and live entertainment. The event is expected to go on until 2am.
