Richmond and Zetland Harriers
Six athletes from Richmond and Zetland Harriers competed in three locations over the Bank Holiday weekend in track and field and on the roads.
Carl Outhwaite and Georgina Zissler travelled to Liverpool to compete in the Northern Counties Junior T&F Championships and both came back pleased with their efforts. Carl was fifth in the final of the hammer, throwing a PB 36m75, 10cm further than his coach John Wild threw to break his own club record last season, albeit with a lighter hammer. Georgina ran 27.42 for 200m, a season's best and was unlucky not to make the final.
The Gray twins chose to run at Raby Castle, near Staindrop, in the 5K Fun Run and had both an enjoyable and successful day in scenic surroundings. Scarlett was the one who came out on top, showing the sort of form that brought early season success in Cross-Country last winter. Scarlett was first girl in 22:27 with Jessica close behind in fifth place. Philip Fitzpatrick was another winner, closer to home in the 2 mile Fun Run at Melmerby, continuing his run-of-success in local races. Colin Sewell was the lone Harrier in the Melmerby 10K, enjoying his run despite the damp conditions and finishing in 40:28.
This Sunday, the younger athletes are at Stadium 2000, Shildon for their second fixture in the YAL. Also on Sunday, the Thirsk 10, starting from the Racecourse at 2pm, has £250 prize money on offer for the first man to break 50 minutes and the first lady to break 56 minutes.
