THE original set of whale bones which were a landmark on Whitby's West Cliff for 40 years have found a new home.
The bones - replaced recently because of their deteriorating condition - are on display at the town's Archives Heritage Centre.
They were presented to Whitby in 1963 by a Norwegian and erected at the instigation of the then council surveyor of the area, Graham Leach.
A new set of bones was transported to Whitby from one of its twin towns, Anchorage in Alaska, and erected two months ago.
The originals are now on display in the heritage centre and the plan is to re-form them as an arch to create a centre-piece feature for an exhibition of objects and images of Whitby's former whaling days.
