Two sets of football fans put their rivalry aside to raise money for financially-troubled York City FC.

Fans of Darlington and York met at Quakers' Feethams ground to raise money for the York City Supporters Trust who have been heavily involved saving the financially-troubled Division Three outfit.

The players on each side are made up from regular visitors to their team's websites donated cash to play in the game, raising £270 which was presented to the York Trust last week.

Spokesperson for the York Supporters Trust, Kirsten Gillies, said: "We are extremely appreciative of this gesture from these supporters.

"It is yet another example of how football fans have joined together to help our club. To get the chance to play on your favourite club's pitch is every fans dream, we are delighted to have been able to benefit from this too."

Although billed as a means of raising finances for the Trust, each team, especially the Darlington side, were delighted to get the chance to grace Feethams in what was one of the last games to be played at the 120-year-old ground.

Named Uncovered FC after website Darlo Uncovered (www.darlofc.co.uk), Darlington enjoyed their big day at Feethams which, despite the 4-1 defeat, fulfilled a lifetime dream for their squad.

Manager, Dan King, said: "Even though we got beat. I don't think the scoreline was all that important, just being able to say we have played at Feethams is great. There were times during the match when I looked around the ground to take in what was happening.

"Originally we asked Darlington if they would let us use Feethams for a game, but at that stage we did not have any opponents in mind. But one of our players suggested we ask York to play us, and then use the game as a means of raising money for their supporters trust.

"All in all it was a great day all round and thanks go to Darlington FC for letting us use Feethams."

The two sets of supporters have already planned a re-match in York next month when the home side will feature former York City and Darlington striker Lee Nogan who has agreed to play after the York fans sponsored his kit last season.
