GOVERNORS at a Darlington school will meet education chiefs today to discuss the proposed sale of playing fields.
Darlington Borough Council wants to sell playing fields at Longfield Comprehensive School to fund a tennis centre. Residents have until Saturday, June 14, to make their views known to the authority.
COACH TOUR: The Friends of Senior Citizens charity has organised a coach tour to Carlisle and Gretna Green on Wednesday, June 18. The coach leaves at 9am with pick-up points in Newton Aycliffe, Shildon, Ferryhill, Heighington, Faverdale and Cockerton. To book a ticket, costing £12, ring (01325) 313924.
COMMITTEE MEETING: The Ferryhill 2000 committee will meet tomorrow, in Ferryhill Town Hall, at 6pm.
HOUSING PLAN: Hunton Grange Developments has applied to Darlington Borough Council for permission to create 11 apartments at Ashgrove House, on Trinity Road in the town's West End.
DIABETES EVENT: Bishop Auckland branch of Diabetes UK will hold a sponsored walk at Hardwick Hall Country Park, near Sedgefield, on Sunday. Entry and sponsorship forms are available from Joyce Short on (01325) 312765.
RESIDENTS' MEETING: Woodhouse Close Residents Action Group in Bishop Auckland will hold a public meeting in Proudfoot Drive Community Hall on Thursday at 7pm.
BAND EVENT: King James I Community College, Bishop Auckland, will host the Prince Bishops Jazz Band carnival on Sunday, from 10.30am.
FOUNDRY FIRE: A timber building was destroyed in a fire at the William Cook plant, formerly the George Blair foundry, yesterday. Three appliances attended the incident, at about 7am.
EXHIBIT OPEN: The exhibition John Wesley's Weardale is on display at the Weardale Museum, Ireshopeburn, throughout the summer. The exhibition is open from 2pm to 5pm, Wednesday to Sunday. For details call (01388) 517433.
HOTEL EXPERIENCE: Year ten pupils from Greenfield School, Newton Aycliffe, spent a week in hotels across County Durham to gain an insight into the travel and tourism industry. They visited the Eden Arms, Rushyford; Redworth Hall, near Heighington; The Old Manor, West Auckland and The Kings Head, Lanchester.
FUN RUN: Hummersknott School and Language College, Darlington, holds its annual fun run on Sunday, June 15, at 10.30am. There are 10km and 4km runs.
SUMMER EVENING: Whit-worth Hall, Spennymoor, is hosting a summer evening tomorrow, at 7pm, in the Walled Garden. Entry is £2.50, including a buffet.
PUB PLANS: The Station Hotel, in Hurworth, near Darlington, is seeking permission from Darlington Borough Council to create a paved area, a dwarf wall and railings at the front of the premises.
