A SMALL craft workshop which employs four people with learning disabilities and sells its products in visitor centres, shops and by mail order, has been given a financial boost.
The newly installed Mayor of Harrogate, Councillor Ian Galloway, who represents the Bishop Monkton ward, near Ripon, has chosen the Jenny Ruth Workshops as his mayoral charity for the year.
The workshops are based at Marton-cum-Grafton, near Boroughbridge, but a move to larger premies near Ripon is planned.
The group has changed its operation recently into a not-for-profit limited company and registered charity.
It means it will be able to employ more people with learning disabilities and there will also be a need for more teachers and supervisors.
