A SEARCH has been launched to find North Yorkshire's best bobby.
The county's 2003 Community Police Officer of the Year competition seeks to identify the officers who have contributed most to life in the county's local areas.
Local people and organisations are being asked to put forward nominations for their chosen officers, together with reasons as to why their efforts should be recognised.
The contest, held in association with GNER and O2, is being organised on a local basis, so that each of the county's eight districts will select a winner.
Each will then go forward to a final to be held later in the year. The overall winner will represent the force at a national event.
The criteria for selection includes personal skills and problem solving, local initiatives, and close involvement in working in the community.
Nomination forms are available from North Yorkshire Police Authority, PO Box 106, Ripon, HG4 5WA, or from their web site at www.nypa.org.uk. Closing date for nominations is July 31.
