TWO doctors are spending two weeks in Iraq to help with the post-war humanitarian crisis.
Consultant anaesthetists Steve Benford and Karim Hussain, who work at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton, are part of the Human Relief Foundation's aid programme. Its current emergency appeal aims to deliver essential food, medication and care to the people of Iraq, traumatised by the death of family and friends and devastated by the loss of homes, possessions and stocks of food.
The doctors will be taking much-needed money, food and equipment with them thanks to the generosity of local people and health trust staff.
Dr Benford said: "Dr Hussain and I are looking forward to putting our experience and skills as anaesthetists to good use in Iraq."
