A MAN was jailed for six years yesterday for sexually abusing a child 30 years ago.
The schoolboy victim of George Sirrell kept silent until he saw him again last year, said Stephen Ashurst, prosecuting.
Sirrell, now 60, was found guilty after a Teesside Crown Court trial last month of five serious sexual offences when the boy was between 11 and 15.
Judge Peter Fox QC said that the experience had a severe impact on the life of the victim, who is now married with a family.
Sirrell, of Cocken Road, Stockton, was convicted of three charges of serious sexual assault and two of indecency with a child. He was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Tim Roberts, defending, said Sirrell had not been convicted of any other offence in the past 30 years and was not a danger to the public.
