AN inquest opened yesterday into the death of a teenager killed in a high-speed crash with a stationary Army truck.
Liam Amos, 15, was a passenger in a Ford Sierra which was being pursued by police on the A68 in the early hours of May 23.
The car collided with the broken-down Army truck, one of two parked at the side of the A68, between Harperley Hall and Fir Tree village, County Durham.
Liam was confirmed dead at Durham's University Hospital of North Durham.
The driver, a 16-year-old boy from the Bishop Auckland area, escaped with minor head injuries, but the car was severely damaged due to the force of the impact.
Liam, of Dunelm Chare, Escomb, was a pupil at Bishop Barrington School, Bishop Auckland.
The Police Complaints' Authority is supervising an investigation into the accident.
North Durham coroner Andrew Tweddle formally opened the inquest at County Hall, Durham.
He adjourned proceedings to a later date pending the completion of inquiries into the accident.
