Sally Fordy, 34, is a fundraiser who wanted to meet new people and have fun while raising money for a good cause.
It was six years ago that Mrs Fordy, of Coxwold, first became involved with Macmillan Cancer Relief and she has since formed a committee and helped raise thousands of pounds.
"I've had friends who have had cancer and it is a sobering experience," she said.
"Suddenly cancer is in your world and then Macmillan is, and you see first hand the support, treatment and care they provide - and after that there was no other charity for me."
Around her part-time job and responsibilities as a mother to three-year-old George, Mrs Fordy is secretary of the Villages Committee, helping organise fundraising events from Osmotherley to Harrogate.
"It is very rewarding seeing the money we raise for Macmillan put towards local causes," she said.
"One of the best, however, is the collections. Standing with a tin for two hours can raise £150 for Macmillan, but what really hits you is the kindness and generosity shown by the public."
This week Macmillan is celebrating the work of its 70,000 volunteers who give their time, skills and expertise to help the charity make a difference to the lives of people with cancer.
