THE funeral takes place tomorrow of an Army cadet who died in a swimming tragedy last week.
Family and friends of 12-year-old Liam Robinson gather for the service at Holy Trinity Church in West Cornforth, County Durham.
Liam, of Willow Road, Ferryhill, got into difficulties while attempting to swim across the River Wear, at Sunderland Bridge, between Croxdale and Durham last Wednesday.
It is thought the keen angler had been fishing in the river during the half-term break, before joining a friend in the water.
Despite being pulled out of the water by local people alerted by his friends, and strenuous attempts at resuscitation, Liam was certified dead on arrival at Durham's University Hospital of North Durham, after being airlifted from the scene by police helicopter.
Liam, a first year pupil at Ferryhill Comprehensive School, lived with his mother Nicola and step-father, brother Carl and sister Terri-Lee.
Inquest proceedings into his death opened at County Hall, Durham, yesterday, but were adjourned by North Durham coroner Andrew Tweddle for a full hearing at a later date.
Tomorrow's funeral is at 10.45am, followed by burial in the churchyard.
