Zimbabwe's Dougie Hondo tore through the England middle order this afternoon to put a dampener on the festivities surrounding Durham's first Test.
Hondo took three wickets in 11 balls as England subsided from 146 for two to 156 for five.
Mark Butcher moved serenely to 47 before playing on to Hondo, who then had Robert Key caught by Grant Flower at mid-wicket for just four.
England captain Nasser Hussain (18) then edged the seamer to wicketkeeper Tatenda Taibu to complete the hosts' collapse.
Marcus Trescothick, who struck 43, had earlier been unfortunate to glove a catch to Taibu off Ray Price, and England went to tea on 176 for five.
