STUDENTS have paid tribute to their teacher, who died in a car accident, by raising money for her favourite charity.
Jennifer Askew often led charity fundraising events in aid of the Butterwick Hospice, at Staindrop Comprehensive School, where she was a food technology teacher and head of year eight.
The 54-year-old, from Witton-le-Wear, died in Darlington Memorial Hospital after being involved in a head-on collision near her home on March 8.
Yesterday, her year eight pupils presented a cheque for £3,200 to the hospice in an assembly which was attended by her husband Jeremy.
Headteacher Brian Kinnair said that he was proud of all the hard work the students had put into raising the money.
