A NEW initiative aimed at tackling graffiti in Hartlepool is to be launched today.
An anti-graffiti squad, comprising offenders from Hartlepool on Community Punishment Orders, has been set up Hartlepool Borough Council in partnership with the Teesside National Probation Service. The equipment that will be used blasts a jet of hot water under high pressure and can also be used to remove chewing gum from pavements and fly-posters.
CIRCULAR WALK: East Cleveland countryside wardens will lead a ten-mile circular walk from Flatts Lane Country Park, Normanby, to Guisborough Walkway on Wednesday. The walk leaves the Flatts Lane Visitor Centre at 10am. Participants are asked to take a pack lunch, and to wear suitable clothing and strong footwear. For details call (01642) 459629.
COUNCILLORS ELECTED: The remaining candidates for the six seats in the Saltburn, Marske and New Marske Parish Council election for the St Germain's ward - postponed because of the death of a candidate in April - have been returned unopposed. They are Peter Atkinson, Independent, John Coulthard, Labour, William Goodwill, Liberal Democrat, Madge Moses, Liberal Democrat, Rose O'Driscoll, labour and Margaret Wilson, Liberal Democrat.
ANTIQUES FAIR: An antiques and collectors' fair will be held at St Nicholas Church Hall on Saturday, June 14. Refreshments will be available from 10am to 4pm. For details call Bill on (01287) 638689.
COFFEE MORNING: Newcomen Methodist Church, in Mersey Road, Redcar, will hold a coffee morning on Saturday, June 14, from 10am to 11.30am. Admission is 50p.
SCHOOL FETE: A fete will be held at St Bede's School, Marske, from 1.30pm. Attractions include a miniature steam train, a fire engine, coconut shy, bouncy castle and slide, a magician, and a Punch and Judy show.
