POLICE seized cannabis resin, heroin and crack cocaine during a raid on a house in Middlesbrough.
Officers from the district support unit used a warrant to search the house at 11pm on Tuesday. Two men were arrested and are being held for questioning in connection with drugs offences. The 60-year-old grandmother of one of the men was also arrested for allowing her premises to be used for the supply of drugs.
MAN ROBBED: A man suffered head injuries after a masked man approached him in his garage at home and demanded his car keys. When he refused, the intruder grabbed a wooden mallet and hit him over the head. When the man fought back, the robber fled empty-handed. The attack took place in Aldborough, near Boroughbridge, in North Yorkshire, at 6.30pm on Tuesday. Anyone with information is asked to call (01609) 783131.
CASE ADJOURNED: The case against former Tory councillor and magistrate Paul Geldart has been adjourned for a month. Mr Geldart, of Darlington, was arrested last year after a woman from the town contacted police and said she had been attacked and needed hospital treatment. Mr Galdart was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The case was adjourned for 28 days, to be heard at Durham.
DRIVER DIES: A teenage driver involved in a head-on collision with a skip-loader earlier this year has died. Stephen Harkness, 17, from Woodlands Grange, Fencehouses, near Sunderland, suffered multiple injuries when his Citroen Saxo collided with the vehicle in Hetton-le-Hole on March 25. He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital, where he died on Tuesday.
CHILD SUPPORT: A conference providing support for parents of children with learning difficulties takes place today at Ushaw Moor College, Durham. About 250 people are expected to attend the event, organised by the Darlington Parent Partnership Service.
ROCK DELIGHT: Rock band Violent Delight will visit the region to promote their new single All You Ever Do. The band will play and sign CDs in HMV, in Newcastle, on Tuesday, at 5pm.
SHOP FIRE: Firefighters were called to a shop in Front Street, Great Lumley, County Durham, just before 4am yesterday. The roof of the shop was partially damaged in the blaze.
