FERRYHILL Town Council has appointed a projects assistant following a huge response to an advertisement.
More than 100 people applied for an information pack after the job was advertised in The Northern Echo.
Seventy-five forms were returned and from them Anne Kirkpatrick was selected to replace Alan Grey.
Mrs Kirkpatrick, who was formerly promotions officer for Newcastle's Eldon Leisure Centre, lives in Darlington and is returning to work after taking six years out to raise a family.
"After my career break I wanted to get back into the workplace and I was really happy and elated to get the job," she said.
"It's going to be quite challenging, but I'm looking forward to helping organise the events, and I think I'm going to enjoy it."
