ANGLERS are being urged to renew their club membership as quickly as possible.
Durham City Angling Club has carried out a recruitment drive and membership has reached 250. Membership secretary John Hepworth said: "So far, recruitment for the new year is high, but any member from last year who has not renewed their membership is urged to do so as quickly as possible as the committee may have to restrict membership to reduce the pressure on club waters.'' ART SHOW: An exhibition by 18th Century Italian artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi comes to Tyneside this week. The Imaginary Prisons show runs at the University Gallery, Northumbria University, Newcastle, from tomorrow until Thursday, June 19. Admission is free.

BOWLS MATCH: Durham County ladies' bowls B team takes on its opposite number from Northumberland in Blackhill and Consett Park tomorrow, from 1.30pm. On Saturday, Durham's C team will play Yorkshire. The match starts at 2pm.

CENTRE GRANT: The Lloyds TSB Foundation has given £15,000 to the Pennywell Neighbourhood Centre, in Sunderland. The money has enabled the centre to take on an extra member of staff for its family support service.

BLOCK PLAN: Planning permission is being sought for a two-storey detached sixth form block and extension to a teaching block at St Leonard's Roman Catholic Comprehensive School, in North End, Durham.
