A GROUP of prison staff swapped their uniforms for hiking gear when they walked 28 miles to raise money for charity.
The nine-strong team from Northallerton Prison walked from Ingleby Greenhow to Pickering to raise £500 for their home town's Breast Cancer Support Group.
Organiser Terry Rudkin, whose wife Christine was diagnosed with breast cancer, said: "We were keen to raise money for the group and the walk seemed an enjoyable way to do this.
"It was a good team effort and we all finished the route despite the sweltering heat."
Among other projects, the money will be used to provide training workshops to help people who have suffered hair loss during chemotherapy wear different styles of scarves and hats.
Judith Curtis, Macmillan clinical nurse specialist at the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, said: "Some women find hair loss the worst part of their treatment and they are often left with the dilemma of what to put on their heads. There are plenty of innovative products on the market, which we will be demonstrating at the workshops.
