THE Mayor of Durham, Councillor Ray Gibbon, will present a certificate to Helen Davison tomorrow recognising her voluntary work for the History of Education Project.
Miss Davison, who is disabled, has been a volunteer for 12 years and has produced a database of 6,000 outdated history text books and organised a conference for the Historical Association.
HEALTH MEETING: Retired National Health Service workers are invited to a meeting of the Durham National Health Service Retirement Fellowship on Wednesday, at Framwellgate Moor Community Centre, from 2pm. The speaker will be the manager of Oxfam in Durham.
WARD SURGERY: Easington district councillors for the Dawdon ward, Joe Goodwin, Frank Shaw and Charles Walker, will hold a surgery on Monday, June 16, from 6pm to 7pm in Dawdon Miners' Welfare Centre, Mount Stewart Street.
SUMMER SALE: A fair and car boot sale will be held in Grindon, Sunderland, on Saturday, from noon to 3pm at St Cuthbert's RC Primary School, in Grindon Lane. There is a £3 charge for sellers, who should arrive by 11am. Admission is 50p.
SEASIDE SOUNDS: Folk singer and musician Eliza Carthy, who won the 1998 Mercury Music Prize, performs in the Amphitheatre, South Shields, on Monday, June 16, at 7.30pm. Admission is free.
MINING DISPLAY: Tudhoe Methodist Church holds a mining exhibition on Saturday, June 14, from 10am to 4pm, Admission is 50p and proceeds go to the chapel roof repair fund.
WORLD SOUNDS: DJs will be playing world music, funk, dance and reggae when the Pony Club meets at 8pm tonight in the Beamish Mary Inn, No Place, near Stanley. Admission is free.
HOSPICE FUNDRAISER: A coffee morning and sale will be held at St Cuthbert's Hospice, Park House Road, Merryoaks, Durham, tomorrow, from 10am to noon. Admission is 50p.

HEALING SESSIONS: The National Federation of Spiritual Healers will hold sessions in The Shakespeare Hall, North Road, Durham, on Saturdays June 14 and 28, from 1.30pm to 4pm.
COFFEE MORNING: St Mary's Church, West Rainton, will hold a coffee morning and sale at 10am tomorrow. Bedding plants and gardening equipment will be on sale.
FOLK NIGHT: The Wayfarer Folk Club holds a singers and musicians night at 8.30pm tonight in The Wayfarer pub, Haswell. Admission is free.
