RESIDENTS of Richmond are to celebrate 1,000 years of history with a day dedicated to the town's heritage.
On Tuesday, a heritage day will publicise the town as a tourist destination.
The day begins with the cutting of a corporation cake, made at the town hall to a 300-year-old recipe.
Visitors, including journalists and representatives of tourism publications, will then have the opportunity to take one of three tours of the town, which will include sites such as the castle, the Georgian Theatre and museums.
Mayor of Richmond Councillor Stuart Parsons, who organised the event with the town council, said: "Richmond is a great town with a lot to offer as a tourist attraction.
"We want to draw attention to ongoing developments and projects as well as celebrate the town's rich historical heritage.
"As well as taking planned tours, visitors will see other sights, including the cobbled market place and the 18th Century obelisk.
"We hope they will leave with a very positive impression of the town and help us to promote it as one of the region's key tourist destinations," he said.
