RESIDENTS are to have gas installed at their homes for the first time after a contract for a supply was awarded.
Easington District Council has appointed East Midlands Electricity, which installed the gas supply at Haswell and Haswell Plough, to also connect Hesleden and High Hesleden.
The project will cost about £371,000, and work is due to start in the near future.
A roadshow is being organised to give residents details of the scheme and how they can access the supply.
Councillor Barry Bates said: "Through a significant capital investment, the district council is bringing gas to the settlements of Hesleden and High Hesleden.
"Residents will shortly be able to have gas on tap with instant heating at their fingertips.
"Not only is this a much-needed service for the area, it will also assist in making properties more desirable and lettable."
