A NEW community regeneration group has completed its first major project.
Saltburn Forward has opened Henry's Place, a new adventure play park on Marine Parade in the town, named after Henry Pease, who was instrumental in bringing the railway to Saltburn and lived near the site.
The Saltburn Forward group was launched two years ago by residents to carry out projects and gain access to grants for the benefit of the town.
Members carried out market research with individuals and schools in the town to determine if locals wanted a new play park - with 98pc in favour.
Although members of the group knew local people wanted a more adventurous play park, they were also careful to make sure it was accessible to children with special needs.
The play equipment is made from recycled materials, with seating around the park and new planting, which greatly improve the area.
The park was officially opened last Friday by Sophie White, 14, who attends Huntcliffe School. She won a competition to design the Saltburn Forward logo.
The play area has now been handed over to Redcar and Cleveland Council to maintain and Saltburn Forward has become a registered charity, with designs on other areas of the town.
Miranda Kelly, one of the charity's directors, said: "We are looking at doing some more regeneration work on the whole of the top promenade.
"We are looking at providing more seating, have already done some planting and are going to look at the cliff lift entrance and generally make that area more attractive for children, with an area for traditional games."
