A CONCERT featuring some of the world's top tribute bands has been cancelled after only 200 tickets were sold.
Thousands of music lovers were expected to attend the Great Tribute Weekend at Holme House Farm, Piercebridge, near Darlington, on June 21 and 22.
The outdoor event was to feature more than 12 hours of music, including sets from Abba tribute band Bjorn Again and The Australian Pink Floyd.
But yesterday, promoter NHP Events said lack of ticket sales had forced the event to be cancelled.
A spokeswoman said: "We have had a lot of positive feedback about the concerts and it is likely there would have been a surge in the couple of weeks in the run-up to the event.
"However, this was a risk that NHP were not prepared to take. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
Farmer Mal Graham, whose 800-acre, 10,000 capacity farm was being used for the event, said he couldn't understand why it had failed.
"It's a great pity and I'm very disappointed. We have done heavy advertising. We have done everything we can but I think that people are just not prepared to commit themselves."
Ticket holders should already have been contacted for a refund, but those who have not are asked to call NHP on (01642) 351130.
