THE increasing population of people aged over 50 in Darlington was treated to a day of activities yesterday.
Music, advice stalls and guest speakers entertained crowds in the market square as part of the town's third annual Daisy Day, launched by Health Secretary and town MP Alan Milburn.
Darlington Active Independent and Staying Young (Daisy) group aims to raise awareness of sheltered housing schemes in the town, as well as encouraging people to enjoy a healthier lifestyle.
Guest speakers included Peter Barron, editor of The Northern Echo, who said the newspaper's Chance to Live campaign, which aims to combat heart disease, could include Daisy Day in the future.
The need for a healthy lifestyle was a key theme of the day, with keep-fit demonstrations also taking place.
