Shadforth Community Association is holding a barbecue on Saturday, June 21, at 8pm, in Shadforth Community Hall, near Wheatley Hill, east Durham.
Music will be provided by Rick and the Commandments. Tickets are £7.50 for adults, and £4 for children under 12, and must be booked by calling 0191-372 0308. The community association is holding a coffee morning in the village hall on the same day, from 10.30am to noon.
PLAYERS SOUGHT: Horden Ladies' Football Club, in the Northern Regional Women's Sunday League Division Two, is looking for players for next season. BEARS' PICNIC: Peterlee Town Council is hosting its 15th annual teddy bears' picnic on Sunday, June 15, from 2pm to 5pm, at Shotton Hall, Old Shotton, Peterlee. There will be free picnics for the under nines, as well as a magic show, face-painting and fairground rides.
COFFEE MORNING: To mark this month's National Osteoporosis Month, Durham Osteoporosis Support Group is holding a coffee morning and sale at Durham Town Hall, at 10am next Saturday.
DANCE NIGHT: Dance '03 is being staged by Samantha's School of Dance at 7.30pm next Saturday, in the Lamplight Arts Centre, Stanley. Tickets are £4.
ADVANCED DRIVING: The Institute of Advanced Motorists' Durham Car Group will be holding its next meeting on Tuesday, June 17, when it will be holding a "squash a bollard" event at the Park and Ride car park at County Hall, Durham, at 6.30pm. FUN DAY: Sure Start West Derwentside holds a family fun day in Catchgate Primary School today, from 11am to 3pm. Newcastle United football legend Malcolm "Supermac" Macdonald will open the festivities.
CHILD HURT: A seven-year-old boy is recovering after being knocked down as he crossed the street. The accident happened in Tay Road, Thorney Close, Sunderland, on Thursday, shortly after 5pm. Paramedics took the child to Sunderland General Hospital, where he was treated for leg injuries.
