HOUSEHOLDERS in Hartlepool are being reminded of the importance of basic hygiene in a bid to reduce the risk of food poisoning.
Officers from Hartlepool Borough Council have issued the appeal to coincide with the 11th National Food Safety Week, which runs from Monday, the main emphasis of which is hand washing.
Kim Baines, the council's healthy food co-ordinator, said: "People should always wash their hands thoroughly before preparing food, after handling raw meat, after using the toilet and after handling pets."
Further information on food safety is available by contacting Ms Baines on (01429) 523340.
