A YOUNG athlete is looking for sponsorship to enable him to compete for his country.
Mark Richardson, 17, has been selected to represent Great Britain in the sport of biathle in an international event in Italy on June 29.
The event comprises a 1,500 metre run, followed immediately by a 200 metre swim, then another 1,500 metre run.
Mark, from Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, is studying for A-levels at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, in Darlington.
He trains at least five times a week at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre under coach John Moore, of Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club.
The teenager has also been working with Aycliffe Athletics Club.
He said: "Unfortunately, there is no financial support available from the sport's governing body and the trip has to be entirely self-funded.
"I need to raise about £400 in less than a month to compete and I would appreciate any financial help from local companies willing to sponsor me."
Anyone who wishes to help can write to Mark at 32 Ryder Court, Woodham, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, DL5 4BP.
