RESIDENTS in Stockton are being urged to get active at leisure centres across the borough.
Activ8 is the new name for gym facilities in Stockton Borough Council's leisure centres. And visitors to the Splash facility, in Stockton, will soon be able to take advantage of the latest gym equipment thanks to a major refurbishment.
The work is part of a £120,000 revamp of Stockton's fitness facilities and will open in June.
The Splash leisure complex will benefit from new gym equipment and a weight resistance studio..
Five health and fitness advisors have been appointed to work at Billingham Forum, Stockton Sports Centre and Thornaby Pavilion.
Councillor Alex Cunningham, the council's cabinet member for education, leisure and culture, said: "The new facilities will be open in time for people to get into shape for summer, and the refurbishment work will provide first-class equipment for users of the gym.
"Activ8 is all about encouraging people to stay active, whether for health, social, personal or sporting reasons.
"The new fitness instructors will offer a wealth of experience for people using the gym equipment, and can put together personal fitness programmes."
A range of new membership packages will be on offer, including the Lifestyle Option, which enables members to access all fitness suites, exercise classes, swimming facilities and saunas.
