CLIMBERS have raised more than £1,000 to help handicapped people and to restore Whitby's famous 199 Church Stairs- by climbing the landmark 199 steps 385 times.
Forty people from Tees and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust climbed the equivalent of Mount Everest. The proceeds will be divided between Whitby Hospital, Spinnaker Lodge and the £150,000 fund to restore the steps linking the harbourside with St Mary's church and Whitby Abbey.
