POLICE have reported a problem with car crime at one of the region's airports.

Officers said there have been a number of incidents in recent weeks at Teesside International Airport.

In the latest, on Friday evening, an Audi car was broken into in the airport car park, where the owner had left it for four days while on a trip.

A spokesman for Darlington police said: "It has always been a problem. People leave their cars for a considerable period of time, sometimes two to three weeks, and the cars get broken into.

"The airport does its best. It has security, but these are very determined thieves."

He added: "Very often it is criminals who travel from outside the area to the airport to do this."
