THE outgoing chairman of Newton Aycliffe Town Centre Forum has wished the group every success for the future.
Councillor Terry Hogan's term of office came to an end when he decided not to stand for re-election to Great Aycliffe Town Council.
His chairmanship coincided with an exciting time for the town centre, with the start of the long awaited £25m extension to the shopping area.
Work on the first phase of the project, which will include a Tesco supermarket, several other shops and community facilities got under way last week on the former Avenue School site.
Coun Hogan, who is still a member of Durham County Council, thanked everyone who helped the work of the forum during his term.
He said: "A special mention should go to the many shopkeepers who gave freely of their time and I would encourage the new chairman of the forum to tap into that valuable resource.
"My thanks also go to Mike Rice, Great Aycliffe town clerk, who acted as secretary for the forum, and to Barry Hindmarsh of Durham County Council for their hard work and effort.
"I look forward, together with many Newton Aycliffe residents, to seeing the first phase of the new town centre development become reality later this year."
