The Silver Jubilee team won on three rinks from six but were just pipped for the overall game. Best rink in this match was Jean Jameson, Betty Flett and Marjory Laskey. The team next play at Smiths Dock on Wednesday, June 11, 2pm against Derbyshire.
In the Durham Centenary club trophy the John Whitehead Park team pulled off a remarkable win against the very powerful Rugby Cement team at South Ferraby, Humberside. At 21 ends the match was level but a strong finish saw the park team open up a 25 shot winning gap over the last few ends. Colin Moore (Sid Hodgeson, Mark Jones) and Tony Bowe (John Fielding Sen, John Fielding Jun) both had big wins and with Bill Shands rink and Barry Young's rink running the opposition very close this was a fine win.
